Vom Waldenhaus German Shepherds is a small, very
specialized breeding and training facility located on 120 wooded
acres in the middle of the Mark Twain National Forest. We have dedicated 3 acres for our kennel facility and the remainder (wooded land) for our training area. Our nearest
neighbor is over a mile away. Visitors are welcome to visit our
German Shepherd Paradise anytime by appointment. In this way we
can set aside enough time to answer your questions and for you get to
know who we are.
We made the decision many years ago when we started, to be a "private" breeding kennel, not a commercial operation, We do not sell wholesale to pet stores, brokers or anyone who intends to resell. We will only sell to "private" individuals who are seeking a truly wonderful companion. Our breeding and basic kennel management is based on a life
time of wholelistic approaches to improving and maintaining healthy
vigorous German Shepherds. We only produce 4 to 5 litters in a year . Our
kennel is closed to all outside disease and pestilence. We eliminated
fleas from our kennel some 15 years ago, that was a GIANT step
toward eliminating a lot of associated disease and illness like
tapeworm, etc. We also stopped doing stud service and boarding at the same time,
which cut down on a lot of transient potential problems. We invested
in a separate housing facility, which is outside of our regular kennel
whelping and breeding facility. Here is where new potential breeding
candidates, fully vaccinated young adults that make regular visits to
town to be socialized, are kept in pairs in very natural, large open,
graveled pens. These pens, as are all of our pens are larger than most
peoples back yards. Only after a GSD has been separated from the
heart of the kennel for 45 days and monitored for disease is it allowed
into the breeding, whelping area. It's extra precaution and extra work,
but having our GSD friends, happy and virtually sickness free is
worth it. All of this without the daily use of dangerous chemical
sprays and dips so common at most kennels. They are like our
children and the bonus is that our Vet bills are usually only for
vaccination medications, preventative heart worm testing and
medications, preliminary and OFA hip x-rays.
The Forrest Family has been raised by and has been raising
imported German Shepherds since my Grandfather, Roland Forrest's
day before the Great Depression. It is in our blood to be around these
magnificent animals. We at Vom Waldenhaus have been carrying on
this family tradition, since the spring of 1976,
over 20 years now.
Our goals at Vom Waldenhaus are to improve the German
Shepherd breed through proper genetic trait selectivity and the
earliest possible handling and socialization. We spend hundreds of
hours (along with our children) interacting, handling and observing
each litter. We feel that proper early stimulation and interaction
with each pup helps foster high bonding with humans and creates
companionship and respect, which logically eases resistance for
later advanced training. Most kennels in today's make a "quick
dollar" mentality, will breed almost any two randomly acquired
German Shepherds just to produce pups with little regard to
selection of correct type breeding. In most cases the only
socialization the pups get are with each other and once a day when
they are feed and cleaned up after. Unfortunately for the people
who buy from such breeders, they will be lucky if they have one pup
[about 10%] of the entire litter to pick from that could be
considered and outstanding representation of the breed. That is if
they even get to pick out their own puppy, most breeders today pick
for you. You can just imagine who is going to get that "one"
outstanding pup in the litter. It probably won't be you!
At Vom Waldenhaus, on the other hand, after you have seen
our color pictures and pedigrees and you like what you see, then
you can make a reservation. We will immediately put you on the
list. When the pups are 8 weeks old, if you live a great distance from
us and can not come here to select your puppy, we will send you a
video of the pups (designated with different color ribbons) of the type
you are looking for to select from, with our best recommendations.
However, the final choice is YOUR'S. No one should ever buy a
puppy without seeing at least a video. We want you to feel
comfortable that you are getting exactly what you are paying for.
Buying a puppy should be a "fun-thing" from people you feel
comfortable with, not filled with stress and frustration due to
mistrust. Video provides absolute proof that "what we say we have,
we can prove we have" and that you are going to get an excellent
puppy from us. You will not have a disappointing surprise when you
open up the airline crate. You are going to get the pup you selected
from our video. We let our pups leave when they are 10 weeks old
and crate trained with an updated complete vaccination record and
recorded personal identification tattoo number. Signed guarantee and
AKC papers sent separately.
They are SHIPPED FREE of any charge including a new airline approved
airline crate, complete air fare and associated taxes, comprehensive
flight insurance coverage, Veterinarian FAA required health
certificate and check-up, all airline reservations and connections set-
up by us and free delivery to the departing airport - free shipping to any major airport anywhere within North America. The only really big responsibility
you have is to pick-up your pup at the airport and start enjoying the
best present you ever got for yourself and your family.
We produce large boned, beautiful puppies that have
exceptional temperaments. We breed only select German dogs that
have been x-rayed to be free of hip dysplasia. Our import blood lines
are clean and free of the problems that most other breeders are
plagued with. We have researched our breeding import's background
extensively, but more unique than anything else, we have family
raised complete litters to maturity at our facility so that we could
evaluate each puppy at every stage in development. We know exactly
what we are producing by this in depth process. We consistently
produce sound, high bonding companions with
super intelligence and strong training drives. Each pup
we produce has the essential elements and strong bonding instincts to
make them sound personal and loving family companions. Each litter
produces some king-size pups and maximum for the standard size
pups, never anything less in size or stature. We do not and would not
breed specifically for over sized German Shepherds, but would not
sacrifice the excellent temperament we produce just because only a few
puppies in every litter happen to be slightly larger than the standard.
Good breeding is always an educated and well informed balancing act.
We have spent the last 20 years gathering as much analytical
data as possible and our research of these selective breeding's has
given us the tools to match up the outstanding traits of each
individual to compliment the outstanding traits of each of our
breeding pairs. To us proper breeding is more like an art form and
a purposeful pursuit for the love of the breed, not a money making
whim as it is for those people who are simply interested in how
much money they can make.
